NSClient isn't an option, because I don't have a Linux box and my boss won't let me have one. Problem is, I've been trying to create a Host Template along with the necessary XML files, scripts etc, for two full days now, to no avail.
I've read and re-read the documentation, tried to borrow code from the Netware templates, but still couldn't really get things going. I ask for your help to build a host template for NT hosts.
I'm sure there are more people around with some of these old boxes that would like to monitor them. The problem is this software costs money, can effect server performance, and would have to be deployed to a large number of servers. My cacti server is running on Windows so I figured this might work. Why is this so painful? Surely there is a way to monitor physical memory usage on Windows which is a bit more straight-forward?
Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank You, Brad. In reviewing the how to it looks like I managed to do all the right things without the how to but the graph is still not working as I would expect. Data source 73 virtual memory is polling index 5, which is an optical drive. Data source 74 physical memory is polling index 6, which is virtual memory. They should be polling indexes 6 and 7 instead.
Often you must manually refresh the indexes click that green circle next to the data query , otherwise cacti will continue to use cached indexes in the poller cache it only would refresh them in your case when the uptime changes.
I had this problem on Cluster nodes because the Quorum disk moves around the nodes. It displays memory which is free, or dedicated to cache or buffers. And it uses the wrong base, assuming there are bytes in a kilobyte of memory.
So, I set out to make a better one. Many people have used this method to make better memory usage templates. Eric A.
